  1. An implementation plan describes how each element of the positive behavioral support plan will be put in place, identifies the sequence in which each intervention will be implemented, and creates a timeline with the roles and responsibilities for each person involved.

  2. Developing an implementation plan helps ensure that both initial and ongoing efforts of the student's team will be successful.

  3. The implementation plan can help ensure consistency by identifying the resources, training, and strategies needed for a successful positive behavioral support plan.

  4. Implementing a positive behavioral support plan without the necessary resources frequently leads to high levels of frustration and limited success.

  5. An implementation plan can assist team members in creating a timeline and sequence for each element of the positive behavioral support plan.

  6. The amount of detail and type of information included in an implementation plan can change based on each individual student.

  7. Identifying the specific individuals responsible and the dates each activity will be completed provides documentation for each step of the functional assessment.

  8. The implementation plan can assist in maintaining momentum during the functional assessment process.

  9. The implementation plan may include dates for the development of protocols and procedures for completing the functional analysis and the team members who will participate.

  10. The implementation plan will include strategies that will assist the team in designing logically linked interventions.

  11. In some cases, it will be necessary to identify the individual steps needed for implementing each intervention.

  12. Most positive behavioral support plans need to be modified and adjusted, especially during the initial stages of implementation.

  13. Increases in adaptive behavior and decreases in problem behavior are often recorded daily and summarized weekly, while other measures that assess long-term quality of life issues may be reviewed on a monthly basis.

  14. The team can use the implementation form to systematically review their progress, reassess the timelines that have been set, and problem solve when individual difficulties arise.

  15. Teams that utilize the data they gather on a regular basis often view the information as rewarding and are eager to review their progress.

  16. Providing the data in a visual format will allow the team to see that a problem behavior is gradually decreasing.

  17. A simple one-page summary could be used to include information regarding a number of measures related to quality of life, interaction patterns with others, or other qualitative assessments.

  18. Use the implementation form that works for your team and design it in such a way that the form itself can be used as an ongoing agenda for each meeting.
