The authors were interested in evaluating the effectiveness, maintenance, and transferability of an intervention approach. The purpose or aim of the intervention was to reduce problem behavior by teaching a communication response that addressed the same function as the problem behavior. As you read the research article, pay attention to what measurement systems were used, how the functional analysis was implemented, and how the baseline data assisted in the evaluation of the intervention approach.
