"An area in need of research and development centers on
instructional features of online instruction. Currently
there is a rather standards ET of features that
characterize online instruction. As Media streaming
becomes
more feasible and bandwidth problems are solved
the opportunities to incorporate features that today are
too cumbersome will exist. At that time the power of
online instruction can be increased through the design of
new features"

"There are also opportunities to compare the effectiveness
of teaching skills and concepts online to other modes of
instruction"

"Principles of teaching that characterizes traditional
instruction can be researched in terms of their
effectiveness when incorporated into online instruction.
Most such principles can be applied to online instruction"

"There are opportunities to do research on the development
and design of online instruction. This a particularly
important area of research as the instructional design of
online instruction is in essence a significant part o
f
teaching online"

"Comparatively little research as been done on the pedagogy
of online instruction. This opens the door for
considerable research. Research can be conducted on the
preferences of students for navigation strategies, the
a
mount of flexibility they prefer in completing online
instruction, the relationship between rate of completion
and knowledge gained, and on features that enhance
completion of online coursework"

"I find that there are research questions that can be
enbedded in activities that are instructional for the
student and that yield important in formation. For
example, I teach a course on the development of online
instr
uction. On of the activities if engages student in is
an analysis of the setting in which they do their course
work online. This allowed me to learn the conditions under
which the students are working and it also allowed me to
offer e
suggestions to students who were encountering some
problems with their work environment"
