Commercial products, shareware, and freeware that
are widely available and applicable to online instruction can be included.
Care should be taken to insure that documentation of resource is accurate
and complete. There will also be a provision for instructors to include
comments on how they have used the resource or why they are recommending it.

Teaching online is a new experience for most of us.
While many of the principles and techniques we use when teaching in
traditional formats also apply to online teaching, there is much to be
learned about teaching online. This is an opportunity to share examples of
strategies or techniques that have been found to be effective while
teaching online. Examples might include the presentation of instruction,
the management of resources, record keeping or communicating with students.

Instructors will vary in how they integrate the
modules into their teacher education curriculum. Teacher education programs
also vary in how they are structured, i.e. some are offered at the
undergraduate level, others are five-year programs and many take the form
of graduate level certification programs. We have created this page so that
instructors can share information about curriculum and program structure,
with particular emphasis on how the Academy modules are being used in
programs.

The use of online instruction is relatively new in
higher education. Much remains to be learned about its effectiveness and
how best to design online instruction. The newness of this form of pedagogy
provides a rich opportunity for research. The Academy is interested in
encouraging research on topics related to online instruction. To the extent
possible the Academy is also interested in facilitating research. The
sharing of research ideas is one way to stimulate collaborative research.

The literature base pertaining to online
instruction is just emerging. New journals are appearing and much of the
literature is being published on web sites. For this reason it is difficult
for individuals to monitor the literature. As you identify URLs and
articles that pertain to online instruction and might be of interest to the
Academy staff and fellow instructors, please share them.
